NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school.  Our summer was very pleasant for our campers; they enjoyed “the lazy, hazy days of summer.”  We on the other hand had a very busy time preparing the second floor for September.  The second floor is painted and has new flooring  We also had a loft made for the two’s room.  We hope that the children will have wonderful, productive days in the new rooms.

We have scheduled a new parent orientation meeting on September 3rd at 4:00 p. m.  followed by a workshop:  “Dealing with Preschool Separation presented by Wanda Frankel, Ms.Ed. at 4.45 p. m..  The workshop is open to all parents.

The first day of school is September 4th.  We suggest, whenever possible during the transition period, that parents send their children for a shorter day.  We also ask parents not to stay in the classroom for a long period of time; five to ten minutes is appreciated.  Parents can stay on the school premises or leave; we will call you if your child is unduly upset.

Our first Field Trip is on Monday, September 15th to Demarest Farms.  The trip includes a hay ride out to the orchard.  We suggest that pregnant moms or people with back or neck problems not participate.  It is possible to walk to the orchard but the road is very rutted and long.  There is a picnic area for lunch at the orchard or at the country store.  At the country store, there is fresh produce, a salad bar and homemade baked goods.

We have rented a school bus which holds fifty two persons.  Reservation and payment will be collected starting September 4 to the 10th.  The cost of the bus and entrance to the orchard is $24.00 for children and adults.  A bag will be given to every paid admission for the apples.  Infants do not pay for Apple Picking, however infants in car seats pay $15.00 for a seat on the bus.  All reservations are on a first come first served basis.  We will start a waiting list when we fill the bus.  We will then need forty four people to order a second bus.

LUNCH - Please bring all lunch bags with ice packs because our one refrigerator cannot hold thirty seven lunch bags.  The teachers will be happy to warm the children’s lunch.  We have a peanut free environment since so many children are developing allergies to peanuts.

Children who leave at 11:30 a. m.  do not have to bring a full lunch however a nutritious snack is suggested.  The children all sit at the table with their friends. Sitting at a table with their friends helps them to learn to eat on their own and to socialize with their peers.

Lunch should consist of a nourishing meal, drink, fruit and a desert that has little sugar and fats.  New regulations have come down from the Department of Health regarding the feeding of children in nursery schools.  Inspectors can and will come in and look at all labels and food in the children's lunch bags.  We are required to follow all regulations handed down by the Department of Health.

Clothing - All children need two sets of clothing ex. pants, shirts socks and underwear.  Please write the child’s name on all clothing.

Diapers - Children in diapers should have a bag of diapers in the school: teachers will inform you when they need more.  Wipes and creams will be supplied by the school unless your child needs special products.

Every year we have Pot Luck Dinners.  We would like volunteers to help set up and clean up.  Our Pot Luck Dinners dates are the following:

    Friday, September 12 at 6:00 p. m. for the Three’s class
Friday, September 19 at 6:00 p. m. for the Pre kindergarten class
    Friday, September 26 at 6:00 p. m. for the Two’s class

We hope that everyone can attend so that they can meet other parents and teachers.

We have limited spaces for children in our school.  Thus, if you know of someone who is looking for a place for their child let them know.  We are also having open houses for 2009/2010 on September 16, 18, 22, 23 and October 14. 21, 23 and November 13 and18.  We will accept applications for 2009/2010 starting September 4, 2008.

Kinderdance will have a dance demonstration for parents and children who  would like to participate in their program.  Kinderdance is an optional program and is charged separately; Yoga and Piano are also optional.

Curriculum night is on September 25, at 6:00 p. m.  Curriculum night will give parents a chance to learn about the teachers plans for the year and meet our Kinderdance instructor, Ms. Janice our Piano teacher, Jax our Yoga teacher and Mr. James our music teacher.

ALLERGIES - If your child has allergies or dietary restrictions, please alert your child’s teacher and the office in writing.
