The Kid's Korner Preschool

Program Description

Our Program follows the principles of Child Development. Our goal is to give our children a creative and happy experience in a pleasant environment in which they will learn the disciplines of the classroom while enjoying hands-on and free-play activities during the school day. Daily structured activities vary between individual and group instruction. Each child learns at his or her own pace.

Two's Overview:

Toddlers will learn to coexist and interact in a group. Any child who needs time to her/himself will be able to separate from the group, staying within the classroom, for a period of time as needed by the child. Children will not be forced to participate in any activity that makes them upset or uncomfortable. They will be encouraged to participate for the learning experience. Children will not be made to feel overwhelmed with a new environment; teachers will help them to develop a sense of themselves away from their primary care givers by providing a nurturing environment for learning.

Three's and Four's Overview
Children will be involved in their own learning through various learning centers set-up by teachers in the classroom. Each child will be encouraged to move through these centers as she/he feels ready. Children will not be forced to participate in any activity that they do not feel ready for. They will move at their own pace and use their own mode of learning. Assistance will be given during learning center period as necessary. It will be important for the children to develop an awareness of others as well as a sense of "self" and individuality. The program will encourage both aspects if development; allowing time for group and individual play\work, share and reflective time and teacher and student initiated activities. It is most important for each child to be ready to learn and develop through our interactive and developmental classroom. Several field trips are planned during the school year at which time parents are welcome to participate with their children. Short trips are also planned to the library, zoo, natural history museum or just short walks around the neighborhood. We also offer the following optional programs at an additional cost: dance and piano lessons. Once a week a music and movement teacher comes to our school at no cost to parents. If your child does not attend on the day the teacher is here you may bring your child for that period of time only. The day and time will be given out at the beginning of the school year. Parents and teachers will meet in the fall and spring to discuss the children's progress. Parent meetings are also scheduled for September, November ad March; meeting are the first Thursday of the above months. Get together dinners are also planned for the Fall, Winter and Spring. Newsletters are sent out monthly and "Ask Me About My Week" are sent out by teachers.
